Parishioners celebrate beatification closer to home

Archbishop J. Michael Miller, CSB, celebrated the May 1 beatification of Pope John Paul II on Divine Mercy Sunday and The B.C. Catholic was on hand to take in the festivities at Holy Rosary Cathedral.

During his homily the archbishop praised the late pontiff's wanderlust ways that marked John Paul II's papacy.

"The Pope journeyed to the very ends of the earth, guided by Christ, his Master and Lord," Archbishop Miller said. "With his compelling words and sometimes flamboyant gestures, he never tired of pointing out to the world that whenever we allow ourselves to be embraced by the love of Christ, we do not repress the riches of our humanity."
